8-Frame Timber Base Risers

Build or repair the entrance section of an 8-frame traditional hive base with Timber Risers from Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies.

The riser fits above the bottom board and provides the clearance required for bees to enter and leave beneath the brood box.

Two Riser Heights

The 3/8-inch riser includes:

• Two side pieces
• One rear piece

The 1-inch version includes:

• One entrance section
• Two sides
• One rear section

This allows you to choose a low-profile or taller entrance arrangement according to your base design.

DIY Timber Component

The parts arrive unfinished and require assembly.

Before placing the completed base outdoors, Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies recommends treating the timber with linseed oil or a similar suitable protective finish.

The lower portion of a hive is regularly exposed to moisture and weather, so careful preparation can improve service life.

Built for 8-Frame Width

These risers are designed for an 8-frame hive base.

Combine them with an 8-frame Weathertex board and matching white cypress cleats to create a traditional solid floor.

Do not mix them with 10-frame base components, which are wider.

Useful for New Builds and Repairs

DIY components are particularly practical because a single worn part can be replaced without discarding the rest of the base.

If an old riser has deteriorated but the Weathertex floor and cleats remain usable, replacing only the timber surround can return the base to service.

For beekeepers who prefer finished components, a ready-to-go 1-inch riser is also available assembled, wax dipped and painted.
