Designed specifically for Ideal, or half-depth, equipment, the sheet snaps into compatible double-groove frames and provides bees with a moulded cell pattern from which to begin drawing comb.

Made for Double-Groove Frames

This foundation is not designed for a conventional single-groove wired frame.

You will need a timber frame with grooves in both the top and bottom bars so the rigid sheet can sit securely between them.

Because plastic foundation holds its own shape, traditional horizontal support wire is generally unnecessary.

Rigid in Hot Conditions

Plastic does not soften and slump in hot weather in the same way as unsupported natural wax.

Its rigid format also gives the comb a stable backing during normal hive handling and centrifugal extraction.

This can make it particularly attractive for honey supers.

Breakaway Lower Corners

The bottom corners can be broken away to create communication spaces for bees to move from one side of the comb to the other.

Leave them intact or remove them according to the setup you prefer.

Coat with Beeswax Before Use

A light coating creates a more familiar surface and can encourage bees to begin drawing wax across the moulded pattern.

Avoid applying so much wax that the cell impressions disappear.
