Premium 8-Frame Ideal Timber Box – Unassembled

Build a compact honey super around premium timber with the 8-Frame Ideal Unassembled Box from Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies.

Made from plantation-grown New Zealand radiata pine, the box combines a shallow Ideal depth with the narrower 8-frame format.

This makes it particularly appealing where lighter hive equipment is a priority.

Premium Finger - Jointed Construction

The box uses a finger-jointed corner pattern designed for strong interlocking assembly.

A cut-out handle is incorporated into the timber so the finished super is easier to grip during hive work.

The current design uses strengthened corner geometry while retaining the straightforward flat-pack format.

Dimensions

  • Width: approximately 353mm
  • Depth/height: approximately 147mm
  • Timber thickness: 22mm

Assemble and Treat Before Use

The box arrives unassembled.

You will need to align the panels, drill and screw the joints together.

Once assembled, Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies recommends treating the timber with linseed oil or a similar suitable finish to improve outdoor durability.

Beekeepers who prefer to skip this process can choose ready-to-go assembled and treated boxes instead.

Ideal Depth for Lighter Honey Supers

Ideal boxes are shallower than WSP and Full Depth equipment.

That smaller depth reduces the total amount of honey contained in each box and can make a filled super easier to handle.

For backyard beekeepers, smaller operators or anyone trying to reduce lifting strain, an 8-frame Ideal super can be a practical choice.

Match the box with 8-frame Ideal frames and correctly sized foundation.

Prepare More Than One in the Workshop

Flat-pack boxes store efficiently before assembly, making them useful when preparing several supers ahead of spring.

Commercial quantities are also available for larger orders.

Choose the Premium 8-Frame Ideal Box when you want quality New Zealand pine, a compact hive format and the satisfaction of assembling your own woodenware.

Accurately cut so easy to assemble. The ideal size is excellent for end of season flexibility when it's too early to pack down for winter, but pollen and nectar supplies uncertain.
