The Smart Nuc 5-Frame Corflute Nucleus Box from Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies is designed as a practical alternative to keeping multiple assembled timber nucs on hand throughout the year.
Made from quality UV-resistant corflute, the box arrives flat packed and can be folded into shape when required. This makes it particularly convenient for swarm season, when having a spare nuc in the vehicle, shed or apiary can make the difference between being prepared and having nowhere suitable to place a newly collected colony.
Lightweight Design with Useful Ventilation
Although the construction is lightweight, the Smart Nuc has been designed with practical hive management in mind. Plastic vents provide variable ventilation, allowing airflow to be adjusted according to the season and colony conditions. The corflute surfaces are also easy to clean after use, which is helpful when the same nuc is being reused for different colonies.
Assembly instructions can be accessed using the QR code on the nuc, allowing the flat-packed box to be prepared within a few minutes once you are familiar with the design. When correctly assembled, the box also has an 80kg stackable capacity.
For cooler periods, the nuc can be used for overwintering when paired with an appropriate internal feeder. During hot Australian summers, however, position the box away from strong direct sunlight so the lightweight material is not exposed to unnecessary heat.
The side and bottom cut-outs are part of the design and should remain in place during normal use. They are intended to be removed only when two compatible nucs are being joined together.

Not a long-term solution, but basic, light, and re
By: Anonymous on 16 May 2018Perhaps it is just me, but 1-2 minutes to assemble seems an exaggeration - took me a fair while longer, but not too difficult. It is simple and light-weight, with a clever design and does hold together fine just folded (although reinforcing with some staples is suggested and I feel almost mandatory for any real-world use).These will not last forever, but it is just coreflute so you get what is described.If you want something heavy duty that will last 'forever' get a proper wood nuc, if you want a relatively inexpensive, easy to transport, and light-weight alternative (great to keep flat in the car in case you need to hold a swarm) then these certainly tick a lot of boxes.
