Drought and dearth conditions occur frequently in Australia. It may be necessary to feed your bees sugar and/or pollen to maintain the hive. Supplementary feeding is also important during the spring build-up.
At HBS we sell a variety of pollen and pollen substitutes. We also have a range of feeders for feeding and watering bees.
The general consensus is that sugar syrup made on a 1:1 ratio is best, although some beekeepers feed a stronger 2:1 syrup during autumn. When feeding sugar syrup to your bees, always use white sugar. Simply mix the sugar in a jug with some hot water and stir to dissolve.
