The 147mm depth is designed for Ideal frames rather than Full Depth, WSP or half-depth equipment. Therefore, confirm the depth of your existing frames, queen excluder, base and lid before ordering.

Secure Screw-Fixed Construction

Each New Zealand pine hive box is manufactured from premium plantation-grown radiata pine in the Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies factory. Finger-jointed corners provide a broad joining surface, while 44 screws secure the box together.

Using screws throughout the construction creates a strong assembled hive box for regular inspections and seasonal handling. It also removes the need to build the box from flat-pack components before installing frames.

Finished for Outdoor Apiary Use

Once assembled, the timber is wax-dipped at approximately 180°C. The wax dipped hive box then receives one coat of primer followed by two coats of white paint.

This preparation means the painted hive box can be incorporated into a compatible hive setup without additional dipping, priming or exterior painting. However, routine inspections and sensible placement remain important for maintaining all wooden beehive equipment.
