During hot Australian weather, the insulation can help reduce direct heat transfer through the top of the hive. In winter, it helps limit rapid heat loss above the brood area. For this reason, the lid is particularly useful for apiaries exposed to cold nights or winter frost.

Internal Bee Space and Air Movement

A 10mm space is provided between the plywood and the lid rim. This creates bee space inside the lid and allows air to circulate without requiring a large open cavity above the frames. The product design is also intended to reduce burr comb formation inside the lid.
