Assembled Insulated Hive Lid – 8 Frames

Support more stable conditions above your colony with an insulated 8 frame hive lid from Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies. Designed for compatible 8-frame equipment, the lid combines rigid board materials with a polystyrene insulation layer.

The product arrives assembled, wax-dipped and painted, reducing the preparation required before adding it to a hive.

Layered Insulation Design

A polystyrene sheet is positioned between a 10mm Weathertex board and plywood. The combination adds rigidity while creating an insulated barrier between the colony and external temperatures.

The design can help reduce direct heat transfer during summer while limiting rapid heat loss above the colony during colder conditions. For this reason, it may be particularly useful for apiaries exposed to frost or changing seasonal temperatures.

Internal Space Without an Open Top Vent

A 10mm bee space is provided between the plywood and the lid rim. This allows internal air circulation while reducing the unwanted empty space in which bees could build burr comb.

The lid itself has no external ventilation openings. Instead, the product design supports internal circulation beneath the insulated surface.
