Apply Beeswax Before Hive Installation

Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies strongly recommends coating plastic foundation with beeswax before offering it to the colony. A light, even wax coating can make the plastic surface more familiar to bees and encourage them to begin drawing comb.

Apply clean melted beeswax carefully after inserting the sheet. Avoid applying so much wax that the moulded cell pattern becomes blocked or difficult for the bees to follow.
