Build or expand your apiary with a strong, ready-to-use 8-frame bee box from Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies. Manufactured from premium 22mm New Zealand radiata pine, this Full Depth box arrives completely assembled and finished—simply add compatible frames before placing it into service.

Its narrower 8-frame design can be easier to handle than a traditional 10-frame hive, particularly once the box becomes filled with brood, bees or honey. Furthermore, the full-width timber hand cleats provide a secure gripping area when lifting or repositioning the hive box.

Ready for the Apiary

Each box is assembled in our own factory under controlled manufacturing standards. The finger-jointed corners are secured with screws rather than nails or staples, helping create a solid structure for regular hive inspections and ongoing outdoor use.

A total of 44 screws are used in each box. As a result, the joints remain firmly supported when the box is lifted, transported or separated from other hive components.

Wax-Dipped and Painted Finish

The timber is wax-dipped at approximately 180°C before painting. It then receives one coat of primer followed by two coats of white acrylic house paint.

This multi-stage finish helps protect the timber from everyday outdoor conditions while reducing the preparation required before installation. Therefore, you do not need to assemble, dip, prime or paint the box yourself.

Comfortable Full-Width Hand Cleats

The 19mm timber hand cleats extend across the full width of both ends and sit flush with the scooped handles. This combination provides a practical lifting point when carrying the empty box or handling it during hive management.

Nevertheless, always use suitable lifting techniques, as a Full Depth box can become heavy when filled with brood or honey.
