Warre Frames Assembled

Prepare your Warre hive for natural comb building with Assembled Warre Frames from Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies. Designed specifically around the Warre system, these frames arrive assembled without the bottom bar fitted, giving you the flexibility to use them in a more traditional open-bottom configuration or attach the supplied bottom bar if your management style calls for it.

Warre beekeeping is often associated with giving bees greater freedom to construct their own comb rather than filling every frame with a complete sheet of foundation. These frames support that approach by working well with beeswax starter strips.

Designed for Starter Strips

Rather than filling the entire frame with foundation, Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies recommends adding a starter strip along the upper section of the frame.

The strip provides bees with an initial wax guide while leaving the remainder of the frame open for comb construction.

Only a small quantity of foundation is needed to prepare an entire box of Warre frames, making this method different from conventional Langstroth frame preparation.

Correct placement of the starter strip matters. A straight, secure guide can encourage organised comb construction and make future hive handling easier.

Bottom Bars Supplied Separately

The frame is supplied assembled without its bottom bar attached.

However, the bottom bar is included with the product, so you can fit it yourself if required.

This gives Warre beekeepers more choice around how they prepare their frames and allows the equipment to suit different interpretations of natural-comb management.

Warre Frame Dimensions

The frame dimensions are designed to suit Hornsby’s Warre hive boxes.

Product Dimensions:

  • Top bar length: 324mm
  • Width: 35mm
  • Depth: 232mm
  • Bottom bar supplied separately

These measurements should be checked against your existing Warre equipment if you are adding frames to a hive from another manufacturer.

Prepare Frames Before Colony Expansion

Natural comb building takes time and requires colony resources.

Having spare Warre frames prepared with starter strips before a strong flow or hive expansion allows you to add equipment when the colony is ready rather than rushing to prepare it at the last moment.

Warre equipment also differs from Langstroth equipment, so keeping separate frame stocks clearly organised in the workshop can avoid confusion.

Several members of the Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies team have practical experience with Warre hives, making this range especially useful for beekeepers exploring a less conventional hive system.
