Complete Warre Hive Kit
Begin with a coordinated Warre system rather than sourcing every component separately with the Complete Warre Hive Kit from Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies.
The package brings together the main parts needed to establish a full Warre hive, including three timber boxes, 24 assembled frames, a mesh bottom board, quilt box and classic pitched roof.
For beekeepers curious about natural-comb management or looking for an alternative alongside existing Langstroth colonies, this kit provides a practical way to start with compatible components from the beginning.
Three Wax-Dipped Timber Boxes
The hive includes three assembled boxes made from plantation-grown New Zealand radiata pine.
Each box is wax dipped to improve longevity.
Having three boxes available gives the hive room for future vertical development without requiring additional components immediately.
That does not mean every box needs to be occupied from day one. Colony strength and the season should determine how much space is provided.
24 Assembled Warre Frames
The kit includes 24 assembled Warre frames.
Hornsby Beekeeping Supplies recommends adding beeswax starter strips rather than filling the complete frames with conventional foundation.
Bottom bars are supplied with the frames if you choose to fit them.
This gives bees greater freedom to build natural comb while still providing removable frame structure.
Quilt Box and Classic Roof
A wax-dipped pine quilt box sits near the top of the hive.
Filled with suitable breathable material, it can support temperature and humidity regulation.
Above it, the classic pitched Warre lid completes the hive and provides ventilation in the upper roof area.
Together, these components form one of the most recognisable features of the Warre design.
Mesh Bottom Board
The included Warre mesh base provides ventilation below the colony and can support small hive beetle management and Varroa surveillance.
The removable lower section makes cleaning and monitoring more practical.

By: Ian Harris on 30 January 2023Excellent product.Very well constructed and finished. Enables populating with bees immediately, and mine took to as if they had always lived there. Perhaps. There could have observing panels, but this would add to the cost, and if desired can be obtained with a hole saw and Perspex. hives for 40 years and th more natural approach enables me to add a dimension the way my grandfather kept his bees. I was also delighted with the way in which the order was filled and delivered.

I have kept langstroth hives for 40 years and welcome the “natural” approach the complete hive package offers. Very well constructed and provides all that’s required.(understandably except bees and quilt box contents). Order arrived in excellent condition over 300 kilometres away in under 40 hours of placing order.
